Community Development

Aim:
To support and encourage the work of community groups in the area and support those sections of our community whom may by disadvantaged.
 
Objectives:
  • Continue to develop SLNRA's Community Resource Facility
  • To produce quarterly community newssheet
  • To encourage members of the community to become active volunteers
  • To disseminate information and consult with local community groups
  • To establish Information Communication Technology (ICT) training points in various locations throughout the south Lough Neagh region.
  • To support the development of interest groups meeting needs identified by local people

Community Relations

Aim:
To encourage good community relations through actions that are to the benefit of all.
 
Objectives:
  • To develop arts projects working in partnership with local community groups celebrating their local townland diversity
  • To encourage use of local mediums and materials to create pieces of art in partnership expressing common themes of the south Lough Neagh region
  • To help establish a community festival in partnership with local groups, council and local people
  • To develop a structural programme to involve affiliated groups in promoting good community relations

Economic Development

Aim:
To promote economic regeneration by encouraging inward investment to support existing business and to identify new employment opportunities.
 
Objectives:
  • To carry out a feasibility study into creation/development of an additional business centre in the south Lough Neagh area
  • To employ a rural advisory officer for the south Lough Neagh area
  • To develop a tourism strategy for the south Lough Neagh area
  • To encourage local people to set up in business through support and implementation

The Environment

Aim:
To develop and implement a strategic plan for the sustainable development of the south Lough Neagh Wetlands.
 
Objectives:
  • To promote good management of the regions resources
  • To increase awareness of the local distinctive environment and the culture of the area with statutory agencies and the local communities
  • To incorporate economic goals and values into the strategic plan for The Wetlands area
  • To seek agreement and establish targets with all key stakeholders of the need to protect The Wetlands landscape
  • To identify, develop and promote appropriate recreational activities that meet the needs of local people and visitors

Managing Organisation

Aim:
To maintain good management practice and procedures to ensure the organisation carries out its work most effectively
 
Objectives:
  • To manage and support employees
  • To meet developments needs of committee members, employees and volunteers
  • To ensure efficient and effective procedures are developed and maintained
  • To work in a transparent and open manner
  • To work in a manner which allows all equality of opportunity and equal voice
  • To hold AGM's and produce annual reports
  • To evaluate organisation's work and review action plan annually
  • To promote the work of SLNRA using various media
  • To ensure there is appropriate personnel in place to implement the work that SLNRA are involved.

Representation & Lobbying

Aim:
To be representative voice for this rural region, to present the views and interests of the area, and to lobby on relevant issues.
 
Objectives:
  • To lobby relevant authorities:
    Local Council
    Statutory agencies
    MLA's, MP's, MEP's
    Funding bodies
    Sub regional networks
  • Issues to be addressed:
    Environmental issues
    Improvements in infrastructure: roads, bridges
    Planning in rural areas: Wetlands Policy Area
    Housing needs locally
    Improving access to Lough Neagh
    Address lack of services: social services, bus services
    Recognition of tourism opportunities
